Hi, I'm Claire, Specialist Personal Trainer...

I got into personal training after suffering from life-threatening health conditions. I became a PT later in life, having previously worked with children in schools, nurseries, and as a foster carer.

In 2006/2007, I was diagnosed with cancer and went through 10 months of chemotherapy. The side effects were horrendous, often leaving me bedbound, with severe fatigue, sickness, weight gain, total hair loss, and extreme weakness. I also spent a lot of time in hospital, which was an unpleasant and challenging experience.

After some setbacks, I was finally given the all-clear and discharged from hospital. However, just before my 10-year anniversary of being in remission, I discovered I had food allergies, which resulted in another hospital visit. Around the same time, I was also diagnosed with a mild heart condition—shocked was an understatement.

A few years later, after having keyhole surgery, I needed life-saving surgery. I was sent home after the initial procedure, only to be rushed to the local infirmary two days later. Doctors told me I had just two hours to live if they didn’t operate immediately. After the surgery and 10 days in hospital, I returned home. Recovery was slow, and I struggled to move around independently, but I coped as best I could.

During the six-month recovery, I decided to join a gym. I started working with a personal trainer, and after a few weeks, she told me I had the potential to become a trainer myself. That evening, I went online, made an enquiry, and signed up for a PT course. Unfortunately, I had to pause my training midway for another surgery, which put me out of action for 4-6 months.

Once I recovered, I returned to my studies, qualified as a personal trainer, and continued to take further qualifications, including becoming a Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist.

Supporting, encouraging, and motivating my clients is incredibly important to me. I’m committed to providing the best service possible, ensuring that all clients are cared for with consideration of any illnesses or injuries they may have.
